Cannavaro equals Maldini’s appearance record

Juventus bound Fabio Cannavaro equalled Paolo Maldini’s all-time appearance record for Italy when he won his 126th cap in the Confederations Cup 3-0 defeat against Brazil on Sunday. The 35-year-old former Parma defender, the captain of Italy, made his international debut in 1997 and won his 100th cap in the 2006 World Cup final against France.

Maldini to follow Ancelotti to Chelsea

Italian and AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini could be poised to join the backroom staff at Chelsea. Italy’s most capped player could follow former AC Milan manager Carlo Ancelotti to the 2006 Premier League Champions and become part of the back room staff – which includes former AC Milan midfielder Ray Wilkins.

Real Madrid sign Kaka from AC Milan

Brazilian playmaker Kaka has signed for Real Madrid in a world record transfer – that is if you’re working in pounds. The reported £56Million fee that Madrid are to pay AC Milan for the 27 year old eclipses that of the £48Million paid by the same club to Juventus in 2001.

Former AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti has been appointed the new manager of Chelsea, the Premier League club announced on Monday. Ancelotti had stood down after watching his AC Milan side defeat Fiorentina 2-0 – in what was Paulo Maldini’s last game for the club.

Former Juventus forward Marcelo Zalayeta scored the winner in a shock 1-0 victory for Napoli over Serie A leaders Inter Milan. However, his former club couldn’t take advantage of their ex-employee’s strike – by drawing away at improving Reggina. Inter Milan’s city rivals AC Milan beat Palermo 3-0 to close the gap to seven points – with five games left to play.

David Beckham signs for AC Milan

AC Milan are keen to have David Beckham back next season once the MLS season has finished. Beckham has been on loan since January on a time-share deal, and will go back to America when the Serie A season ends.
