Real Madrid have closed the gap on European and La Liga Champions Barcelona after a 2-0 victory over city rivals Getafe – whilst Barcelona drew 1-1 with Osasuna after a very late Gerard Pique own goal. Elsewhere Villareal, who had got off to an awful start, thumped Tenerife 5-0.
Real Madrid, who are still without World Player of the year Cristiano Ronaldo, looked to the Argentinian forward Gonzalo Higuaín to bag a brace as the nine times European Champions look to bounce back following their embarrassing mid-week Kings Cup defeat. Real Madrid also had centre half Raul Abidol, rather harshly, sent off for a tug on Soldado. Elsewhere, Barcelona drew 1-1 with mid table Osasuna. Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimović scored for the away side – before a terrible mistake from Mexican Marquez which led to a own goal from Pique.
