Adebayor to be investigated by the FA

Emmanuel Adebayor

Manchester City and Togo striker Emmanuel Adebayor is to be invesitagted for his conduct against former club Arsenal on Saturday – after the striker kicked out at Robin Van Persie and ran the whole length of the pitch to celebrate in front of the Arsenal fans. Adebayor has since apologised for his behavior, claiming his emotions got the better of him – however his former team mate (Van Persie) isn’t convinced.

Earlier today the Dutchmen released a statement claiming that Adebayor deliberately set out to injure him claiming the stamp was both ‘mindless and malicious’. Van Persie’s statement included: “We are both professional footballers and I know that the game is physical, I too have made hard and sometimes mistimed challenges but never with the intention of hurting an opponent. He set out to hurt me today. He has shown a real lack of class.

FA chief Ian Watmore also had a view on the incident. Watmore told BBC radio “We’ll look at it on Monday and then bring it to the disciplinary process. Our governance team will take a good look at both of the incidents that have been highlighted and will come to the media with the answers early next week. The punishments are the decision of the individual commission, if we get that far.” Manchester City next face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon – quite possibly without Emmanuel Adebayor.
