Real Madrid continued their amazing summer transfer spending with the acquisition of Valencia striker David Villa – who played a pivotal role in Spain’s Euro 2008 victory. Villa will join both Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka who signed earlier in the week.

It is being reported that the Valencia striker has signed for Real Madrid for close to 40 million euros, a Spanish newspaper said on Saturday. Controversial Madrid based paper Marca, proclaimed sources at Real Madrid and Valencia were hammering out the smaller details of the deal before officially announcing the signing of the player.

Villa be will the third major summer signing for the La Liga runners up and Madrid fans will hope that the spending continues with the defense being the next priority. Villa signing will take Real Madrid’s summer spending, so far, to over £170 million. President Florentino Perez wants to return to the Galactico era where Zidane, Roanldo, Raul, Figo and Roberto Carlos helped the club win their ninth and final European Cup in Scotland back in 2002.
