Man City place ‘stratospheric’ bid for Etoo

Manchester City have made a bid for Cameroon striker and Barcelona forward Samuel Eto’o – which has been described by the club’s president Joan Laporta as ‘stratospheric’. If City land Eto’o he could well be linking up with Carlos Tevez – who is considering an offer from the Eastlands club.

Samuel Eto’o had a remarkable season with Barcelona – made even more special that he was considered ‘surplus to requirements’ at the start of the season – with a suggestion he could move to Uzbekistan due to his constant knee trouble. The move never materialized and the Cameroon international helped his side win the treble – the first side in La Liga to do so. Eto’o also scored in the 2-0 victory over Manchester United in the Champions League final.

The player’s contract runs out next season when he will be 29 and Barcelona could be tempted to cash in on their star striker. “He has a stratospheric offer from another club that would make him the best paid player in the world” Laporta told a Spanish radio station. The president added: “It’s becoming clear that he has an offer that’s enormous. I believe he wants to stay and I’d like him to … but an offer like this is very hard to turn down.”
