It is being reported that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is being targeted by Real Madrid as a potential replacement for Juande Ramos – after Real Madrid were humiliated by Barcelona in the 6-2 defeat at home. Wenger has been in charge at Arsenal for nearly thirteen years now and has never indicated that he wishes to leave the North London club.
Real Madrid have targeted a number of Arsenal players in the past – most recently Patrick Vieira, Thiery Henry and Cesc Fabregas, which hasn’t always left the Arsenal manager in high praise of the Madrid club. Arsenal are facing an up hill struggle in their Champions League semi final tie against Manchester United – with the Manchester club taking a one goal advantage into the second leg.
Since February 1999, Madrid have gone through ten different managers with Vicente Del Bosque and Fabio Capello being fired even though they both won the La Liga title in that season. It is no secret that Arsene Wenger would love to win the Champions League – having only appeared in the final once in 2006 with his Arsenal side – who lost 2-1 to Barcelona. Wenger is most likely to see out his current contract with Arsenal – however Real Madrid are obviously in need of some direction having failed to win the Champions League since 2002 – when Zinedine Zidane scored a spectacular volley against Bayern Leverkusen.
