La Liga runners up, Real Madrid, have denied that they have finalised a transfer agreement between themselves and English Champions Manchester United – who play Barcelona in the Champions League final next Wednesday – for World Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo himself has also committed his future to United – which will come as a massive blow to the Madrid club.
Ronaldo has become the best player of his generation in his time at Old Trafford and has come a long way from his debut in 2003 against Bolton Wanderers – a day that United fans knew a legend had joined their ranks. Since then Ronaldo has notched up 118 goals in 243 appearances – although he has a long way to go to surpass United legend Sir Bobby Charlton’s tally of 249.
Real Madrid on the other hand have had a nightmare season. Humbled by a Fernando Torres led Liverpool 4-0 at Anfield, whilst losing 6-2 at home to rivals Barcelona only last month. Madrid have suffered injuries to the likes of Ruud VanNistelrooy and Wesley Sneijder sidelined. Real Madrid made an enourmous amount of noise regarding Ronaldo last season – something that Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United were not too happy about. United are on for an historic double double – whilst Real Madrid are back to the drawing board once again.
