Barcelona thrash Real Madrid to extend lead

Messi Scores against Real Madrid

Real Madrid were thumped 6-2 by Barcelona at the Bernabeu last night – giving the Catalan club a seven point lead going into the remaining fixtures. Real Madrid were confident prior to the game that they would be able to shorten the gap to just three points, however that dream was quickly broken with Henry, Messi, Puyol and Pique running riot.

Real Madrid have had a miserable season, losing Ruud VanNistelrooy to injury midway through the season – whilst be dumped out of the Champions League by Liverpool. The La Liga title was their only hope of silverware this season – which is now and truely dead in the water. Barcelona have now scored an incredible 100 goals in La Liga this season – with Samuel Eto’o on 27 goals so far.

Barcelona now travel to Chelsea on Wednesday for their second leg semi final tie. Chelsea obtained a 0-0 draw at the Nou Camp last Tuesday, playing a defensive brand of football. Barcelona will be confident enough that they can score at Stamford Bridge – therefore Chelsea will need to beat the La Liga leaders – who are playing some unbelievable football at the minute.
