Former Chelsea boss Avram Grant has admitted that Spanish striker Fernando Torres was a target for Chelsea when he was in charge at the Bridge last season. Fernando Torres is widely seen as the best striker of his generation and scored in the 3-1 defeat against Chelsea on Wednesday.
Grant was speaking with the Daily Mail and was quoted as saying “He’s one of the best strikers I have ever seen and I tried very hard to get him at Chelsea.” He was also complimentary of the strikers partnership with Steven Gerrard “Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard work brilliantly together and even when Torres is not at his best, he can still produce a great goal out of nothing.”
Avram Grant’s last game in charge of Chelsea was against Manchester United in the Champions League final in May last season – a game that is remembered for Chelsea captain John Terry’s missed penalty. Grant has been out of the football limelight since that night in Moscow having been sacked three days later.
