Sir Alex Ferguson has renewed his on going feud with Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez after he called the Spaniard arrogant in his assessment of Everton some years ago – whilst also backing up pal Sam Allardyce after he was left ‘humiliated’ by the actions of the Liverpool boss after Fernando Torres second goal last week against his Blackburn side.
“He called Everton a small club which points to his arrogance,” Sir Alex told the press as his Untied side prepare to meet Liverpool’s Merseyside rivals in the FA Cup semi-final this Sunday. He went onto add “They are a big club and David Moyes, the manager, is doing a great job.”
The United manager, who helped coach Scotland in the 1986 World Cup Finals, went onto to criticise the Spaniards contempt attitude towards Allardyce by adding “But arrogance is one thing. You cannot forgive contempt, which is what he showed (Blackburn manager) Sam Allardyce last weekend. When Liverpool scored their second goal he signaled as if the game was finished. I do not think Sam deserved that. It’s beyond the pale. I don’t think any other Liverpool manager would have done that.”
