Liverpool close gap at top

With Manchester United and Chelsea both dropping valuable points in the title race all the questions were thrown to Anfield. Liverpool and Steven Gerrard did not disappoint putting five past ten man Villa.

The English Premier league is now back on. Manchester United still have a game spare but no more chances can be wasted it is as Mr. Ferguson puts it “squeaky bum time”.

Evra slams the boo boys

Manchester United fullback Patrice Evra has hit out at French fans by claiming their repeated boos towards the national team showed a lack of football culture. Evra will be hoping to play in his first World Cup finals in 2010 having become Les Blues first choice left back ahead of Gael Clichy and Eric Abidal.

World Cup Qualifiers Preview

The road to South Africa is a long a hard road but that quest continues on Saturday and Wednesday with a whole host of games. World Cup winners in 1954, 1974 and 1990 Germany take on Liechtenstein with Michael Ballack (pictured) set to captain the side. France have a tricky away tie to Lithuania whilst World Champions Italy face Montenegro.

Berbatov out of Bulgaria squad

Manchester United forward Dimitar Berbatov will miss two games in Bulgaria’s 2010 World Cup qualifiers after picking up an ankle injury against Fulham at the weekend. Bulgaria, who finished fourth in the World Cup in 1994, are away to Ireland on March 28th and at home against Cyprus four days later.

King out of England squad

Ledley King

Ledley King is out of the two England matches against Slovakia and Ukraine and has returned to Tottenham Hotspur for treatment. The 1966 World Cup winners were criticised for calling up King – who has had a number of injury concerns throughout his career.

Barca smash six whilst Espanyol lose again

Barcelona smash six past Málaga to maintain a six point lead at the top of the table. Real Madrid kept the pressure on with a 3-0 win over Almeria. Samuel Etoo scored twice against Málaga while Xavi, Thierry Henry, Daniel Alves and Lionel Messi weighed in with one a piece against their humiliated visitors.

Although the night wasn’t all good for Barca – who lost Iniesta and Toure (pictured) to injury. Struggling city rivals Espanyol stay at the foot of the table having lost 1-0 to a Javad Nekounam goal for Osasuna.

Blackburn forward out of Paraguay qualifiers

Blackburn Rover forward Roque Santa Cruz has been ruled out of Paraguay’s World Cup qualifiers in Ecuador and Uruguay this month after suffering from tendonitis in his left knee, a Blackburn Rovers spokesman said on Friday.
