Vincenzo Iaquinta would have no problem in operating as the main forward in Italy’s World Cup qualifier in Montenegro, the 29 year old Juventus player said on Thursday.
Iaquinta, who made his name at a seven year stint at Udinese, recently scored a sublime goal against Chelsea in the Champions League last sixteen. Sadly, for the Old Lady, Juventus drew the game 2-2 – which meant the Chelsea went through 3-2 on aggregate.
The Juventus front man has often been used in a wide position by coach Marcello Lippi but injuries to Fiorentina’s Alberto Gilardino and Bayern’s Luca Toni mean the 29-year-old is almost certain to lead the line on Saturday in Podgorica. The Juventus man was clearly raring to go in a recent interview “At Juve we play with two forwards. In the national team I have been used on the wing. If I play as the main striker I can equally create space. I have never played with Italy from the start as the main striker but it’s not a problem. At Udinese I did it for seven years and that is the position that suits me best.”
