Ireland without injured Duff

Damien Duff

Newcastle United and Ireland winger Damien Duff has been ruled out of his countries next two World Cup Qualifiers against Italy and Bulgaria – because of injury.

The thirty year old, who played in the 2002 World Cup finals in Korea and Japan, has picked up a muscle strain at the top of his leg and will be replaced by Reading’s Stephan Hunt. Duff has scored seven times for his country.

Liam Brady commented on the Duff situation “The question is who is going play instead of Damien? It’s going to be Stephen Hunt. He has already played a big part for us so far”. Ireland may also be without skillful winger Aiden McGeady who missed out on contact training two days prior to the game.
