Former England captain David Beckham last night surpassed Bobby Moore as England’s most capped outfield player. The former Manchester united midfeilder was a second half substitute against Slovakia at Wembly. Beckham will now look towards Peter Shilton’s record of 125 caps to become England’s most capped player.
Beckham who was largely written off by nearly every one when former England coach Steve Mclaren dropped him from the squad last year, has bounced back to become the nation’s most capped outfield player. Since then Beckham as he has showed through out his great career was sure to prove the doubter’s wrong. No one more so than Beckham has worn the three lion’s badge with such pride down the years, whether leading the team as captain or picking up players threw inspiration and sheer work rate.
Threw the years Beckham has had as much praise for his performance’s along with criticism from some. He has never failed in coming back for instance the last minute goal with Greece in 2002 to put England threw to the final’s and the winning penalty against Argentina in the corresponding world cup. All of this comming after being mocked by so many, with the typical English response to failing again in a world cup the blame was left with Beckham after seeing red against Argentina in 1998. Ridiculed on terraces for much of the following season through United’s treble winning campaign. Again in the European championships in 2000 not only Beckham but his family receiving unwanted abuse from fans, but with his great attitude and boyish charm has now received a recorded number of caps for an outfield player. may there be many more to come for the role model and modern professional, not bad after all for a player who supposedly has nothing in his locker. Cap 110 shouldn’t be to long in coming.
