1930 World Cup Statistics

Uruguay were the first country to host the World Cup Finals way back in 1930. The tournament ran from 13th July to 30th July with the host nation winning the tournament, beating fellow South American's Argentina 4-2 in the final. Thirteen nations competed in the final with nine from Americas and four from Europe. The top scorer of the tournament was Guillermo Stábile of Argentina with eight goals, whilst Pedro Cea came runner up for the host nation.

The format of the tournament consisted of one round of group games, which was then followed by the semi-final and inevitably the final. There was no 3rd/4th place playoff for the two losing semi-finalists. The final was played in Montevideo in front of 93,000 people.
